G. Kent Troy
The son of a West Point graduate, Kent Troy was born in Roswell New Mexico while his father was teaching ROTC at New Mexico Military Institute. Kent would grow up in the military and attend nine schools at nine different locations. He graduated high school from New Mexico Military Institute and returned to attend the junior college graduating with an Associate of Arts degree in 1977.
He received his appointment to West Point from North Carolina, graduated in 1981 and was commissioned armor. His first assignment was in Stuttgart, Germany with C Troop, 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 1st Infantry Division (Forward). He subsequently served in Bindlach, Germany, New Orleans LA, Worms and Mannheim Germany, Fort Monroe, VA and Fort Lewis WA. After, 20 years on active duty, Kent culminated his career as the Chief of Protocol for I Corps and Fort Lewis.
After his retirement, Kent continued his service in the Army as a Department of the Army Civilian as the Chief of Protocol for I Corps and Fort Lewis. This included a voluntary deployment to Baghdad, Iraq to serve as the Chief of Executive Services for the Multi-National Corps-Iraq. After sixteen years in this position, and a total of 40 years of service in the Government, he retired from civil service.
Kent has volunteered with the Captain Meriwether Lewis Chapter of AUSA, the Sons of the American Revolution, Scouts BSA and the West Point Society of WA and was the President of the society for four years. Kent served as the 75th Reunion project coordinator for the Class of 1946 and continues to serve as the Class of ‘46 Secretary/Treasurer.
On active duty, he has earned 2 Army Achievement Medals, 2 Commendation Medals and 7 Meritorious Service Medals. As a civilian, he has earned an Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service, a Commander’s Award for Civilian Service, 2 Superior Civilian Service Awards, a Joint Civilian Service Award and the Secretary of Defense Award for the Global War on Terrorism. He is a recipient of the Order of St. George and honorary First Lieutenant in the 2nd Armored Cavalry.
He married his high school sweetheart, Ingrid, four days after graduation from West Point. They have two boys, Philip and Nick, and four grandchildren, Alana, Amilia, Attemiriah and Zeriel.
