Our Mission:
Developing Strengths Through Strengths

Liberty Graduate Students:
"In application, I feel the concepts are applicable to real-life scenarios. I personally applied some of the learned lessons within my organization. For instance, I teetered on how to best handle a Technical Sergeant who had become openly insubordinate toward his superior. Knowing that this could not be allowed to continue I looked to Gen York’s workbooks. One quote specifically, which I felt reinforced my decision making was found in workbook 6: conduct and it concerned “warning and correcting.” In it, Gen York (2020) states that “strong leaders do not let problems fester or improper conduct or attitudes continue, they warn and correct so that the organization can improve and effectively resolve issues.” (p. 46). I remember reading this quote aloud to my Superintendent and Flight Chief when we made our decision to issue the Technical Sergeant a Letter of Reprimand for his actions.
Moving forward I intend to keep all of Gen York’s workbooks with me in my work center. I will lean on them to help guide me in mentoring and coaching the intermediate leaders in my unit with the hopes that they will pass those lessons down to their troops. I plan on accomplishing this by having meaningful and reoccurring leadership discussions with my Technical Sergeants and Staff Sergeants. I feel the culture and morale of the flight begins and ends with this particular group of enlisted leaders. In an open forum we will “cuss and discuss” on how we can better mold the airmen in the lift and improve our immediate work area."
"My personal experience with the lessons in attitude is reflected in a conversation I recently had with my wife. This conversation is a testament to this course, York’s lessons (2020), and the power of God through Scripture and the Spirit. This experience provides a practical lesson to leaders and the effect their attitude has on others. My wife and I had a heated conversation about one of our college-age daughter’s financial challenges. In the end, I knew I needed to apologize for how the situation escalated. Holding her hands, she asked me what was going on with me. She said that in the last few weeks, I have been more helpful around the house, forgiving, gracious, gentle, and kind. She asked me, “What has changed? Is it the course you are taking? Something has made you change.” To her, my change in attitude affected the way she viewed me. It was apparent enough for her to mention it. I was speechless. While this course is a requirement for a degree, it has more profoundly impacted my life than anything I have engaged in since I was 13."
“The Learning opportunities throughout this course have been nothing short of abundant. I honestly believe that I have learned more from The Strong Leaders Hand Workbooks than I have ever learned from any other assigned reading in any other course. I had a couple of opportunities earlier in the semester to speak to the author Daniel York as a result of my inability to read instructions, a negative quality about myself which also cost me an entire discussion board grade. In just the short five minutes of conversation in each phone call, I think I immediately built a very positive impression of the author, and that likely drove my motivation to read and deeply understand his books."
