History:
John is from Alexandria, VA and recently completed over three decades of military service in the Army. He commanded at all levels from lieutenant to major general and served in numerous joint and Army assignments on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Army Staff, and Army Command staffs. John is highly sought after for his leadership, logistical expertise, and knowledge of Department of Defense (DoD) research and development, science and technology, and acquisition. He is an innovative leader who led change transforming and redesigning Army logistics organizations and doctrine from tactical units to Army Materiel Command (AMC). He advises large and small business on how to do business with the DoD.
Most recently he served as Commanding General (CG) of the United States Army Research, Development and Engineering Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland with the mission to ensure decisive overmatch for our Soldiers, joint warfighters and Nation. There, he led almost 14,000 scientists, engineers, and support personnel at more than 100 global locations and had over 1500 research agreements with academia, 1000 with industry and over 500 with DoD labs and agencies.
He also served as the CG, U.S. Army Sustainment Command and Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois whose mission was to sustain Army and joint forces in support of combatant commanders. He provided the Army with materiel readiness, strategic depth, flexibility, and power projection to meet its world-wide contingency missions; managed Army materiel in excess of $450 billion; and provided logistics on all Army 73 installations. His workforce was more than 70,000 and had an annual operating budget in excess of $11.5 billion.
Prior to that, he was the Chief of Staff at AMC directing a four-star general staff with a workforce of over 100,000 personnel dispersed among 50 states and 144 countries with an operating budget over $49 billion, contracts in excess of $96 billion, and foreign military sales in excess of $133 billion. He also served as the CG, AMC-Southwest Asia/U.S. Army Central G-4/CFLCC C-4 for OPERATIONS IRAQI FREEDOM AND ENDURING FREEDOM where he commanded and executed sustainment across US Central Command supporting over 300,000 joint and combined forces and maintaining readiness of $65 billion in equipment and contracts.
